After hearing rave reviews from a number of other travelers that we met on our Kimberley adventures, we decided that we had to check out what was on offer at Zebra Rock Mine in the far west of Northern Territory, just 10 km’s off Victoria Highway. Everything we had heard about lived up to expectation… the welcoming hosts, the delicious scones (I dare to you to try stopping at one!), the wetland safari cruise on Lake Argyle, the bird-life, the vivid sunsets, the tastiest fish and chips, spacious campground, the mine lease tour, and did I mention the amazing unique rocks and the rock gallery!!! If there is one place to include on your adventures of Northern Australia I would definitely recommend this one as being a fabulous, authentic experience!
Zebra rock is a unique rock formation that is only found in this part of the world. Kimberley & Ruth Duncan own the fossicking rights in the area and have a built up a wonderful business not only with the collection and working of the rock but also diversifying into tourism, offering a campground, mine tours, fishing trips, birdwatching safaris and wetland safari cruises. This has all come about only through shear determination, hard work and a big dream for the preservation of the rock formation for generations to come.
